Nuciferine Extracted From  Lotus Leaf

The lotus leaf (Nelumbo nucifera) is an aquatic perennial. This plant has white flowers with light green leaves and grows throughout the tropical regions of Asia and the Middle East. Known by many other names including the sacred lotus, Indian lotus, Chinese arrowroot, and Egyptian bean, it has an extensive history. In fact, the sacred lotus has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years.

Nuciferine is extracted from lotus leaf. Nuciferine had a pharmacologic profile of action associated with dopamine-receptor blockade; i.e., it induced catalepsy, inhibited spontaneous motor activity, conditioned avoidance response, amphetamine toxicity and stereotypy.

Major functions

1. Nuciferine is an important drug candidate for the treatment of obesity-related diseases, through ameliorating HFD-induced dyslipidemia as well as liver steatosis and injury.
2. Nuciferine may be potential for the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia with kidney inflammation.

3. Nuciferine has a vasorelaxant effect via both endothelium-dependent and -independent mechanisms.

These results suggest that Nuciferine may have a therapeutic effect on vascular diseases associated with aberrant vasoconstriction.
